The history of wedding cake toppers is varied, but it is fair to say, cake toppers gained significant popularity in the 1950’s. These statuettes of a bride and groom were usually made of wax or plastic and found at cake shops or in department store catalogs.
Fast forward to modern times, with weddings coming in all shapes in sizes, it is now much less common to see these ‘traditional’ cake toppers on wedding cakes. Sure, we still see toppers symbolizing a couple, but more often we see cake toppers that reflect the couple’s theme or interests.
